Kojima Reflects on Transformers One: A Nostalgic Journey into 3D Animation and Comic Adaptations

Hideo Kojima has returned with another brief film review, this time focusing on Transformers One. He expressed his thoughts on social media, noting how watching it took him back to his experience with X-Men: First Class. He suggested that Transformers could effectively be adapted into 3D CG animation and remarked that many comic-inspired properties are likely to make a similar transition from live-action to complete 3D CG formats.

This sentiment is significant, considering that X-Men: First Class ranks as Kojima's top choice within the X-Men franchise, and he shared his enjoyment of the film just a few months ago. Transformers One presents the origin narrative of rivals Orion Pax, also known as Optimus Prime, voiced by Chris Hemsworth, and his adversary Megatron, voiced by Brian Tyree Henry. The story explores how their clash ultimately reshaped the destiny of Cybertron, the original planet inhabited by the Transformers.

Directed by Josh Cooley, acclaimed for his contributions to Toy Story 4, the screenplay was crafted by Andrew Barrer and Gabriel Ferrari, who had earlier been involved with Ant-Man and the Wasp. The film features an impressive voice cast, including Keegan-Michael Key as B-127, Scarlett Johansson as Elita, also known as Bumblebee, and Steve Buscemi as Starscream. Laurence Fishburne lends his voice to Alpha Trion, while Isaac C. Singleton Jr. portrays Darkwing. Vanessa Liguori voices Airachnid, and Jon Hamm takes on the role of Sentinel Prime.

The animated feature has garnered positive reviews from critics, currently holding an 88% rating from professionals and an impressive 98% audience score on a popular review platform. Producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura has expressed hopes of developing a trilogy, with plans already laid out for two additional films following this initial release.
